Sidechaining is a technique used in audio engineering to reduce the volume of one track (the sidechain) when another track (the key) reaches a certain threshold. This is commonly used to create a pumping effect on the sidechain track, making it sound as if it is “pulsing” in time with the key track.
Sidechaining can be used to create a variety of effects, from subtle ducking to aggressive pumping. It can also be used to create space in a mix by reducing the volume of competing tracks when they are not needed. In FL Studio, sidechaining can be achieved using the Fruity Limiter plugin.
