Rickrolling is an Internet prank or meme involving an unexpected appearance of the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song “Never Gonna Give You Up”. Victims are typically tricked into clicking on a link that appears to lead to a different video or content. Once clicked, the Rick Astley video begins playing instead.
Rickrolling became popular in the mid-2000s and has since become a widespread Internet phenomenon. It has been used in a variety of contexts, from personal pranks to large-scale publicity stunts. In 2008, for example, the official website of the British Prime Minister was rickrolled.
