A mezuzah is a small case containing a handwritten parchment with specific passages from the Torah. It is affixed to the doorpost of a Jewish home as a reminder of God’s presence and protection.
Hanging a mezuzah on the doorpost is a common Jewish tradition that dates back to biblical times. The Torah commands Jews to write the words of the Torah on their doorposts (Deuteronomy 6:9). This commandment is interpreted as a requirement to hang a mezuzah on the doorpost of every room in the house, except for bathrooms and utility rooms.
