T. J. Rivera is one of the most popular and richest Baseball Player who was born on October 27, 1988 in The Bronx, United States. The Mets invited Rivera to training camp in the year 2016. He started the 2016 season playing for Las Vegas. He was named The PCL’s player of the month in May, in which he hit .373 along with 5 home runs. He was crowned the PCL the batting champion.
In 2017, Rivera was named to his first ever Major League Opening Day roster. He was sent down to AAA on June 11 to make room for Yoenis Céspedes, but recalled on June 13 after Asdrúbal Cabrera went on the disabled list. The Mets placed Rivera on the 10-day disabled list on July 28, after a partial tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament. He underwent Tommy John surgery towards the end of the 2017 campaign. He hoped to return to the Mets around midseason, but an elbow sprain suffered while playing rehabilitation games in the minor leagues ended his season. He recorded 22 plate appearances in the minor leagues during the 2018 season.
Rivera was born to Tommy, a handyman, and Nilsa Rivera, an insurance adjuster. Rivera is of Puerto Rican descent. His mother and father are from Aibonito and Ponce, Puerto Rico. He represented Puerto Rico at the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Rivera grew up as a fan of the New York Yankees, but also liked the Mets. Rivera met his wife, Ashton, at Troy University.
Rivera went to Herbert H. Lehman High School located in the eastern Bronx. After attending tryouts with the softball glove and participating in junior varsity during his sophomore year, Rivera then went on to play in the varsity team for three seasons , while hitting more than .600 in his senior and junior years. Rivera was a college athlete with Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey and then moved into Wallace Community College in the Alabama Community College Conference, located in Dothan, Alabama. Rivera decided to go to Wallace for the reason of playing against tougher opponents in warmer temperatures. Following two years, Rivera moved into Troy University in Troy, Alabama, where was a player with Troy University’s Troy Trojans. Rivera graduated from Troy in 2011 , majoring in criminal justice. He was not selected during the Major League Baseball draft.
Rivera was an .301 batsman’s average in 2011 and split the 2011 year between Kingsport Mets of the Rookie-level Appalachian League and the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A-Short Season of the New York-Penn League. For 2014, Rivera was a.349 hitter .349 which included five home runs as well as 75 RBIs (RBIs) to the St. Lucie Mets of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League and the Binghamton Mets of the Class AA Eastern League. He was back in Binghamton to begin the 2015 season and was then promoted to Las Vegas’ 51s in the Class AAA Pacific Coast League (PCL) on May 16. Although he batted .306 and registering 17 doubles across 54 games and a total of 17 doubles, the Mets moved Rivera down to Binghamton the 1st of August. The Mets did not decide to include Rivera on their roster of 40 players following their 2015 campaign, and thus exposed Rivera for being drafted under the Rule 5 draft; he was not chosen.
