It started off as a tale of two brothers. Both David and Benji were overweight. David was over eight hundred pounds and his brother Benji was just under six hundred pounds. The brothers knew they needed to lose weight and so they saw Dr. Now in Houston. Dr. Now asked them to each lose forty pounds in a month. David went above and beyond. He lost nearly doubled that in a month and so he proved to the doctor that he deserved surgery. His brother, on the other hand, had to still earn the right. Benji hadn’t taken his weight loss as seriously as his brother. He still gave himself cheat days and he wasn’t eating the proper food or doing the exercises.
Benji received a talking to from the doctor. Dr. Now again challenged to lose forty pounds in a month and Benji was able to do so during his second time around. Benji and his brother David both got healthy. They were given surgery and they began to lose the weight even more so now. They were each doing well and so a year later has them now struggling with the excess skin. Especially Benji. He has these great folds of skin and they’re dragging. It a pain to clean the folds when he takes a shower. The skin also bothers him when he’s working out and so he couldn’t wait to qualify for excess skin removal.
Erica felt the same. Erica began her weight loss story two years ago. She was over six hundred pounds back then and she knew she needed to lose weight. She had to be hospitalized when she made it to Houston. She suffered from dehydration and her urine had become bright pink. Erica was able to receive treatment for her condition. She also lost the weight she needed to show Dr. Now she was serious. He cleared her for surgery. He also later removed a mass from her foot and so she’s been able to get around much easier now. Erica was thinking about her future. She met someone and they were talking about having kids one day. And so Erica was hopeful for a while.
Benji was not. Benji’s relationship with his brother David has taken a hit and that along with the pain of his excess skin has set him back. Benji gained twenty-seven pounds since seeing Dr. Now. He wasn’t going to be clear for the skin surgery if the doctor didn’t believe he could maintain his weight loss. Dr. Now hassled him for gaining weight. He also talked to him about going to therapy. Dr. Now believes that a few sessions with a therapist would help Benji get back in the right mindset to lose weight and the doctor was concerned about the breakdown in the brother’s relationship. He knows how much they needed each other.
They were both experiencing the same thing. They were both working on losing weight and they were dealing with excess skin. David is probably the one person to truly understand everything Benji is going through. The brothers not talking had been a shock to Dr. Now because he never saw it coming. He thought they were close and they were at one time. The doctor doesn’t know what happened to change it. He does know that Benji needed to cut back on his drinking because liver couldn’t take it. He put his liver under tremendous strain when he was overweight and so drinking now wasn’t advisable. Benji cut out the alcohol. He talked to the doctor about the skin surgery and he was given the weight he needed to be to qualify.
David meanwhile realized he needed to change his own lifestyle. David realized he needed to break up with his girlfriend Mary. Mary liked him when he was big and he couldn’t get around. She began resenting his weight loss when he put in the effort. She tried to sabotage him and David didn’t like that. David wanted to be with someone who would support him. He left Mary and he found someone else. His daughter also came to live with him. She was great for him because he initially lost the weight so that he could be with her more and that plus a new job has David on track. He’s doing everything he’s supposed to.
Erica wasn’t. She and her boyfriend Jimmy broke up. Jimmy saw a new side to Erica that he had never seen before. It had pushed him away and he ended the relationship. Erica then used the breakup as an excuse to go off the rails. She began eating fast food again. She gained more a hundred pounds in a couple of months she last saw Dr. Now and so the doctor was disappointed in her. He expected better from Erica. She wasn’t even sure if she was still going to move out to Texas. She was going to live there to originally be with Jimmy and so now doesn’t want to do it if she’s doing it alone.
Dr. Now recommended that Erica see a therapist. She needed to speak with someone about her broken heart and she needed to go back to losing weight. She couldn’t do the last one if she stays stuck. Erica decided to move. She focused on moving over the next several weeks. She was going to get rid of so much junk she had collected over the years while she was at it and she was going to start over somewhere new. Erica was hoping that would be enough to help her. Although she still has not seen the therapist and so she wasn’t exactly following through on Dr. Now’s suggestion. The doctor tends to recommend the therapist because he knows there are deeper issues going on and so it sucks when the patients ignore him.
Benji saw the therapist. He was seeing a therapist and he was considering going into business for himself. Its something he’s always wanted to do. He wanted to be his boss and so he was working extra hard to save up the necessary money he needed for such a venture. Benji was also cheating on his diet. Benji started eating junk food again. He would grab tacos on his lunch break and he would make sure they added cheese to everything. Benji also still wasn’t talking to his brother. He had been upset that David broke up with Mary because he said Mary was a part of the family and so he tried to talk his brother out of the breakup. And David didn’t like that.
Only Erica’s heartbreak has pushed her over the limit. She’s climbing back up in weight and she has to rely on her old walker now. Her weight might even have pushed her stomach back out. Dr. Now had warned her about it and so Erica knows her health is genuinely at risk again. Its what ultimately pushed her to see a therapist. Erica finally talked to someone about how hopeless she feels since the breakup. She told the therapist that she didn’t feel like she a future without Jimmy and she blames her recovery for losing him. She thought all the hospital visits were what pushed him away.
Erica is feeling resentful. She went on her weight-loss journey because she was tired of being alone and she thought she would find someone who would love her forever. She thought she found that person in Jimmy. She’s still hung up on what she thought she would have that she lost sight of her goal plan and she had to be rushed to the hospital because her stomach was popping under the seams. She stretched it out again. She needed more surgery now to fix what she did and Dr. Now said he wouldn’t give her the surgery if she didn’t lose weight. She had to come back under four hundred pounds or he wasn’t going to help her.
Benji got to where he needed to be. He lost the weight and then someone. He later qualified for excess skin removal. Dr. Now performed the surgery and overall he removed about a good twenty pounds of pure skin. It was finally going to stop bothering Benji. He wasn’t going to be weighed down anymore and so got his dream. His brother wasn’t there. Benji and David still weren’t talking. David wasn’t there when Benji had surgery and so the two brothers still haven’t healed their rift. They each moved on from each other. David was enjoying his life and Benji was finally enjoying his. Losing the skin had opened new doors for him. He did start his own business and he and his family were talking about a vacation somewhere tropical.
Erica sadly back-slide some. She did lose the weight she needed for another surgery and Dr. Now had to clear away the scar tissue from last time to put in another sleeve. So, Erica was on the mend when she fell in the shower. She ruptured her stitches when she fell and so she had to be rushed to the hospital. Erica, it seems hadn’t waited for her care assistant. She thought she could do everything on her own and that’s how she injured herself. Dr. Now had to repair the stitches. He prevented her from bleeding out and Erica later realized she couldn’t do this weight-loss on her own. She decided to move back to LA. She was going to stay with her sister for a while and she still believes her future is going to have Jimmy in it.
