Mie Dunleavy wife-American educator and politician, Mike Dunleavy was born on May 5th, 1961 in Scranton, Pennsylvania in the United States of America.

He received his diploma from Scranton Central High School in 1979, and in 1983, he graduated from Misericordia University with a Bachelor of Arts in history. He graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a master’s in education.

His first employment after arriving in Alaska in 1983 was in a logging camp in Southeast Alaska. Dunleavy thereafter pursued his ambition of becoming a teacher. He graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a master’s in education after obtaining his teaching credential.

He worked as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in settlements in the northwest Arctic for almost 20 years. Rose, the wife of Dunleavy, is a native of Noorvik, a town in the Kobuk River Valley.

In 2004, Dunleavy and his family relocated to Wasilla, where he worked on several statewide educational programs while running his own educational consulting business. Dunleavy

was on the Matanuska-Susitna Borough board for two years prior to his election to the Alaska Senate, during which time he also served as the board’s president.

For the August 28, 2012, Republican Primary in District D, Dunleavy ran against incumbent state senator Linda Menard (who had been redistricted from District G), and w on with 2,802 votes (57.42%).

In the general election on November 6, he faced no opposition and defeated write-in candidates with 11,724 votes (94.24%). Dunleavy

said in 2017 that he will run for governor in 2018, however he withdrew from consideration in September of that year due to heart issues. He declared his intention to run again in December 2017.

He left the Senate with effect from January 15, 2018, in order to concentrate on his campaign. After multiple replacement candidates were turned down, retired United States Air Force lieutenant colonel Mike Shower was selected by Governor Bill Walker and approved by the Alaska Senate caucus.

Dunleavy declared his intention to run for reelection in 2022 in August. As a result of his victory, he was reelected as governor, being the first incumbent Republican to do so since Jay Hammond in 1978 and the first governor of any party to do so since Tony Knowles in 1998.

As part of the United States vaccination program, Dunleavy declared in April 2021 that Alaska would provide free immunizations to travelers at key airports beginning June 1, 2021. Considering it unnecessary, Dunleavy declined to issue a COVID-19 disaster declaration on October 8, 2021.

Dunleavy reiterated on October 15, 2021, that while he didn’t support mask or vaccine regulations, he also wouldn’t forbid them. Asserting that they were unconstitutional and totally unnecessary in November 2021, Dunleavy instructed state agencies to disregard federal vaccination requirements, claiming Alaska had managed COVID better than practically any other state.
