Gerry Daly is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on April 30, 1954 in Cabra, Spain, Andalusia, Spain. Gerard Anthony Daly (born 30 April 1954) is an Irish former player with a career in the Football League for Manchester United, Derby County, Coventry City, Leicester City, Birmingham City, Shrewsbury Town, Stoke City, Doncaster Rovers and The Republic of Ireland national team.
Daly quickly reunited with with his former manager Docherty who was appointed director of the Rams in September 1977. Even though they were not able to agree, Daly remained with Derby until the end of 1980. Daly scored a well-known penalty in the game of Derby in 1977, against Manchester City where the penalty spot was repainted during the game due to the poor state on the Baseball Ground pitch. In his time at Derby, Daly spent time on loan with the New England Tea Men of the North American Soccer League in 1978 and 1979. After Derby’s downfall in the year 1980, Daly signed for Coventry City who he played for four seasons, which included the time he was on loan to Leicester City in 1982.
Gerry Daly’s last match for Ireland was against Uruguay in 1986 at Lansdowne Road in a friendly match and his last goal for Ireland was a penalty in this match to earn Ireland a 1-1 draw.
He earned his first caps by playing in friendly matches with Poland, Norway and others. He scored 13 goals for the international team which made him one of the highest scoring Irish midfielders. His first goal , in 1976 was a penalty goal in the 1-1 draw against England in Wembley. He scored a second goal against England during the Euro qualifiers in 1978. Also, he scored against Denmark during the Euro qualifiers in 1980. Another goal was scored in the World Cup Qualifier against the Netherlands in 1980 , in an 1-0 win.

Daly was born in Cabra, Dublin, and began his football professional career at Drumcondra along with Stella Maris. His first club of senior status was Bohemians who Daly was a goal scorer in their UEFA Cup away to Koln in September 1972. The year 1973 saw Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty paid Bohemians PS20,000 for Daly’s assistance. Daly’s first season as a player playing at Old Trafford, the team was dropped into the Second Division after finishing 21st out of 22 teams. Despite this, Manchester United gained an immediate rise to top division with Daly playing a major role. Daly continued to perform well through the 1975-76 campaign which saw him play in 51 games which included in the 1996 FA Cup Final. In the middle of the 1976-77 season, Daly was sold to Derby County for a fee of PS175,000.
Gerry Daly represented Ireland from 1973 until 1986, and earned 48 caps.
He then spent a season at Birmingham City before signing for Shrewsbury Town in October 1985. His experience helped the “Shrews” remain in the second tier finishing in 17th position in 1985–86 and 18th in 1986–87. This prompted Stoke City manager Mick Mills to sign Daly in March 1987. In 1987–88 Daly played 30 times for Stoke scoring three goals but fell out of favour in March 1988 and was released at the end of the season. He then moved on to Fourth Division Doncaster Rovers where he spent the 1988–89 season playing in 44 matches. He joined non-league Telford United in 1989 and later managed the club between 1990 and 1993.
