In the 2013 parliamentarian elections he ran as an independent candidate and was elected deputy for District 60 of the Region of Magallanes and the Chilean Antarctic.
In 1999 and 2000 Boric participated in the re-establishment of the Federation of Secondary School Students of Punta Arenas.
The parents of his son include Luis Javier Boric Scarpa and Maria Soledad Font Aguilera.
He was a member of the student group Izquierda Autonoma and acted as director of Fundacion Nodo XXI.
