On December 10, 2015, during his final eligible junior season in 2015–16, Lemieux, alongside a 2017 third-round and a 2020 fourth-round pick was traded to the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for Anthony Stefano, a 2019 third-round and 2021 second-round pick. He finished the season with 34 goals and 62 points.

During the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Lemieux was selected in the second round, 31st overall by the Buffalo Sabres. Lemieux was assigned to the Colts for the subsequent season.

In the following 2018–19 campaign, Lemieux made the Jets opening season roster for the first time, securing a role on Winnipeg’s fourth-line. On November 2, 2018, Lemieux delivered an illegal check to the head of Florida Panthers’ forward Vincent Trocheck. He was given a match penalty for the incident. Three days later, Lemieux received a two-game suspension. Having already established career highs through 44 games with the Jets, Lemieux was dealt at the trade deadline, along with a 2019 first-round pick and a conditional fourth round pick, to the New York Rangers in exchange for Kevin Hayes on February 25, 2019. On March 1, 2019 Lemieux scored his first goal as a Ranger in a 4–2 home loss against the visiting Montreal Canadiens. On March 13, 2020, it was announced that Lemieux would be suspended for his hit on Joonas Donskoi, but that the precise parameters of the suspension would be determined and announced once resumption of play guidelines have been established.
